Help! I can't open emailed attachments from CheckPro.

Files emailed from CheckPro are UUENCODED MIME attachments. Not all web browser based email systems correctly identify and handle these attachments.

Some options are:

  • Use Outlook or Outlook Express to read your email if possible.
  • Use UUDECODE to extract the attachment(s) from the email.
  • We can provide an @vsi-hou.com email account that properly handles these attachments.

The F4 menu is maintained in the same place as any other menu, but the application is not "CC". It's "OS" and the menu name is "MAIN". The items on that menu can also be access controlled the same as any other menu.

How do I setup a New Employee in Checkpro?

Setting up a new employee (teller) in CheckPro is not much different than setting up a new customer. There are, however, a couple of differences to be aware of.

  • Employees are stored under the social 000-00-####, where #### is the last 4 digits of the employee's social security number.
  • Customer status must be set to "E" for employee.
  • An employee must also be given a teller ID and passcode.

The following steps will guide you through setting up a new employee in CheckPro.

  1. Go into File Maintenance > Customers
  2. Setup the employee in the Customer Master using "000-00-" plus the last 4 digits of the employees social security number (example 000-00-9061).
  3. Make sure to set the customer status field to "E" for Employee.
  4. Go into File Maintenance > Tables
  5. For the Table ID, enter the last 4 digits of the employee's social security number.
  6. You should be prompted with the "COPY FROM" prompt; Key in YOUR teller ID.
  7. Change the name to the new employee and set the pass-code (under the line) to the new employee's desired passcode.
  8. Don't forget to press PAGE DOWN when complete to save the new passcode.

BBX 2GB File Space Issue.

The "2GB issue" is that BBX has a maximum file size (on disk) of 2GB. This issue does not exist on the current PRO/5 version, which can address 18 million terabytes in a single file. (Existing files must be converted to the new format to take advantage of this feature of PRO/5.)

Think of the data files as big bookshelves, and the individual data records as individual books of varying size. You have a bookshelf that has enough space to store x number of books. You can buy bookshelves until there is no more space in the library (file size limit). You cannot buy more bookshelves for the library once the room is full. There are other rooms where you can store books (the archived history files), but searching them is more difficult because they are in the basement.

When you archive, you move less used books from the library to the basement, making more space in the existing shelves. If the library is not full yet, you can ignore archiving until it is. However, if you do so, each time you search, it takes longer to find the book you want as you add more books and shelves. Archiving books doesn't make the library smaller, because the bookshelves you bought to date are still there. The books are scattered across those shelves.

Rebuilding a file is akin to selling bookshelves after moving all of the books into the minimum number of shelves required. Then, as you buy more books, you also buy more bookshelves, until once again the library is full, and the cycle begins again.

Why does VSI bill for code fixes?

The way things work here at VSI is that we use "rapid development cycles", and allow the customers to test the resulting product. If it has bugs, or is not quite to your liking, we make any changes until it meets your exact needs. All changes are billable, whether bugs or features. We don't perform or bill for detailed quality assurance, and we do bill for fixes. In the long run, you will generally save money that way.
